Roan Mountain Technical Details

Appalectric's sound was digitally recorded on location and in the studio. Our live recordings were recorded on a Microtrack 24/96. Everything else was recorded and produced in the studio using Apple Logic.

On Arran Boat Song and Greensleeves you will hear a lush mix of multi-tracked fiddle recorded direct to an M-Audio Firewire 410 with very little processing other than a hint of reverb. Auld Lang Syne was recorded live in a nice sounding room with hard-wood floors, featuring the fiddle and Washburn 12-string guitar.

Their electronic instruments are also very traditional with the rare and delicate sounds of a Roland Jupiter-8 at its center. Roan Mountain also features the complex and rich timbres from Oberheim Matrix-1000s (two of them in stereo), a Novation BassStation for bass on Arran Boat Song, a Korg X5 for vintage Hammond B3 and Wurlitzer electric piano sounds, and a Emu ESI-2000 sampler for those lush Mellotron chorus pads in Greensleeves. Working with the Jupiter-8 was a natural fit for these songs, and was even used to overdub an electronic kick drum sound on Auld Lang Syne.
